(Un) Fashion is a book made by Tibor & Maira Kalman. "It is an unconventional view of contemporary fashion as seen in the creative ways that people around the globe adorn their bodies."These images, or these ideas may not necessarily be a trend, but nevertheless they are inspiring imagery. These people are the innovators of fashion, it is what we look to for individuality and a mark of freedom when the fashion world can seem suppressed at times. These are people who are not only comfortable in their clothes but also in their skin- and isn't that exactly what the purpose of fashion is?

Fashion Inspired by Painting

By entitling my blog Art & Fashion, I thought this trend was particularly relevant. In the early, warmer months of the year the trend of 'painted dresses' was an undebated hit. Swimsuits were made with the print, so were bags and shoes- you weren't made to feel like you stepped out of  a Monet painting, but rather, you were painted by Monet himself. With the altering of neck lines, but always with a cinched waist, the dresses were always elegant but could be manufactured for an older silhouette, as well as a younger one.

Body Art on Ms Klum

I'm sure the idea of models adorned with painted on swimsuits is quite cliche by now, so I thought a subtler, less provocative stance would be more appropriate for this blog. I was thinking of all the ways that art is combined with fashion and so this concept was deemed a sturdy, if unorthodox example of it. I loved the aesthetic of the ripped shirt, and how the accessories are added to intrigue the viewer even further. It's pretty certain that New Yorkers will not strut 5th ave with nothing but painted underwear anytime soon, but Klum's styling is definitely still on point with the current trends-skinny jeans, distressed wear and a bowler hat- very classy Heidi.

Tim Walker

So, here it goes... Tim Walker, in my opinion, is one, if not the greatest fashion photographers of all time. Many of his kind in the industry just sell clothes, but Walker creates worlds. Every fantasy you can imagine or wish to fall into, or even simple ideas that relate to magical moments, such as a row of convertibles, half sunken in the river while a group of kids are watching a movie projection of Casablanca hung in the sky, by invisible threads. I feel that many creative people around my age, are inspired by his images, and why shouldn't they be? What if your job was to turn your dream worlds into beautiful photographs?

Black Swan- Graceful Meets Gothic

Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman & Mila Kunis, is set to be released on December 3rd of this year, but it is already generating such a major buzz, the film is even rumored to be Oscar worthy. Nevertheless, the fashion industry is also getting in on the craze, Marie Claire Magazine featured a whole segment on the wardrobe inspired by the film's ideals: graceful gothic. Be prepared to see black tulle, bedazzles corsets and an array of elegant but disturbing ensembles this winter. Although it may be enough to infer that the category of 'film' would deem this movie suitable for my blog, but also the aspect of the art of dance- more specifically the ballerina. Tell me, does every woman not now own at least one pair of ballet flats?

The Romantics and J. Crew

First of all, everyone should really go see this movie: The Romantics, not only was the plot, dialogue and cast excellent, the film's aesthetic was even better. At first you don't know what time the movie is set in, you see Anna Paquin and Dianna Argon in short pleated tennis skirts and cream colored tops, Katie Holmes in menswear inspired trousers and an oversized sweater and Malin Akerman in a mini sequined skirt and blazer, the film's wardrobe was donated from J crew's limited edition collection for Fall 2010.

Bis

This is "Bis" By Pamela Hanson. She is a major fashion photographer or at least was, back in her day. This was one of the big trends during the summer, since Fall is here many women are wearing the flowered dress in more fall hues, while paring it with tights, sweaters and boots. I really think this look is classic, when I was four years old I was wearing dresses like this and still did over the summer. Also, the photograph is just amazing and is still Hanson's most memorable work.  The next pic is from the spring 2010 D&G and Dior runways which backs up my point that floral dresses are very much in style:
